Dental Bioethics- Lets Be The Change
A CDE ON Dental Bioethics- Lets Be The Change, was organized in AIIMS on 13th February 2017, which was attended by our faculty Dr. Lata Kiran Mehta, Prof., Department of Paedodontics & Preventive Dentistry.It was a highly interactive session which was chaired by various eminent speakers. Dr. Mary Mathew (Prof.) spoke on thebasic principles in Biomedical Ethics.Dr. Rajiv Ahluwalia (Prof.) elaborated on Ethics in Dental Practice.Dr. RituDuggal (Prof.) emphasized on Ethics in Dental Research. Dr. Vijay Mathur (Prof.) discussed about Ethics in scientific publication. The incorporation of this topic in dental curriculum was emphasized upon.Within the dental milieu the importance of bioethics is invaluable. Health professionals, at times experience ethical conflicts and unexpected moral dilemmas related to uncertainities which are inherent to the health systemas a result of the development of technologies. Bioethics in such cases helps in tracking scientific development with ethical awareness.Teaching bioethics to students will stimulate their socio-moral development which will help them to analyze ethical issues and take ethical decisions in research and patient management.
