About the Conference :

The purpose of this MHRD-sponsored conference is to create awareness about e-Iearning and MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) and how these, as a part of the Digital India initiative of the Govt. of India, are going to change the face of higher education in the country. Both e-Iearning and MOOCs are manifes­ tations of integration of information and communica­ tion technology (lCT)with education. ICT,during the past few decades, has fundamentally changed the way we live now. We find a world of difference in the prac­ tices and procedures of various fields such as medi­ cine, tourism, banking, business, engineering, etc. as they operate now in comparison to how they operat­ ed two decades ago. In contrast, the impact of ICT on education in India, however, has been far less and slow. ICT,if used creatively, can make a big difference in the way teachers teach and students learn and can help students acquire 21st century skills like digital literacy, innovative thinking, creativity, sound reasoning and ef­ fective communication. Realization also seems to be slowly dawning on the teaching community that ICT is not to replace them but to empower them. India with the third largest system of education in the world con­ tinues to face the challenges of enhancing the gross enrolment ratio (GER), affordability and quality of higher education. This seminar will highlight how the e-Iearning and MOOCs can help in meeting the afore-mentioned challenges facing higher education in India. All this is all the more imperative for a country like India which is incidentally also one of the youngest nations of the world. Some of the aspects which this conference proposes to discuss are:

• Development of MOOCs : Processesand procedures
• MOOCs and the quality of higher education
• Empowerment of teachers in ICT skills: Modern Age teachers
• Changing roles of teachers in technology driven higher education
